Photographer : JPL The northern hemisphere is displayed in this global view of the surface of Venus. The north pole is at the center of the image; with 0 degrees, 90 degrees , 180 degrees, 270 degrees east longitudes at 6, 3, 12 and 9 0'clock positions, repectively, of an imagery clock face. Magellan synthetic aperture radar mosaics from the first cycle of Magelolan mapping are mapped onto a computer-simulated globe to create this image. Art By Don Davis Artist's concept of one of the probes on the hot surface of Venus. Although the probes were not designed to withstand impact, there was a chance that one might survive and transmit some data from the surface. A small probe did survive and transmitted data for 67 minutes.

Photographer: JPL P-34578 BW One of two new ring arcs, or partial rings, discovered by Voyager 2, is faintly visible just outside the orbit of the Neptunian moon 1989N4.The 155-second exposure taken by the spacecraft's narrow-angle camera shows the glare of an overexposed Neptune to the right of the moon and ring arc. The two bright streaks below the moon and ring arc are stars. The ring arc is approximately 50,000 kilometers (30,000 miles) long. The second ring arc, not apparent here, is about...

Photographer: JPL P-29510BW Range: 150,000 kilometers (90,000 miles) Nearly the full disk of Miranda can be seen in this clear-filter image taken by Voyager's narrow-angle camera. At this resolution, about 2.7 km (1.7 mi), only two distinct terrain types are visible. One is a bright, rugged, heavily-cratered region seen along the bottom of the disk and extending to the top in a narrow band. The second terrain type is a topographically lower, darker, grooved terrain along the two upper sides in...
